Love it or hate it, the Bangle Butt (E63) BMW 6-Series is getting cheap.
Personally, I like it. When it first came out, I thought it was a hideous pig and couldn’t believe a styling giant like BMW would ever produce such an ugly car. However, over the years, I have grown to like it. Either way, it is most definitely a styling conversation piece and a unique site.
I hadn’t realized how cheap they are getting though. $10k buys a good one, $16k buys a really really nice one. M6's are still $27k and up, but the V8 powered 645i is still quick enough.

I’ve always liked the Bangle butt M6.
Unfortunately the 7-series were ugly front to back.

They still look pretty good. I hear repairs are mortgage payments though.

This entire statement.
It is all true.
This color is the best, however.

I’ve always loved it. Even the rear. Love it! Can’t believe how many people think it’s ugly

You know what doesn’t depreciate? Repair bills. That said, I’d love a drop top for nice weather.

If only those old BMWs weren’t old BMWs, those deals would be awesome.

You basically have to buy cars like these from the people who really wanted, blew a bunch of money on it, for repairs and maintenance, then was pushed over the edge by one last major repair. Lots of new parts with low miles sold at a bottom of the barrel price. Then maybe you can keep it for a few years before it all goes wrong. Then again, it won’t have much more value by the time you’re done, so all’s well that ends well.

That’s probably the way to go, or to buy it from someone who has had it for 8 years and done all the maintenance on it. The neighbors across the street from my parents have a 2005 CLK55 AMG that they’ve have for like 8 years, I can assure you that he keeps up with the maintenance and it’s well taken care of.
I also never really think of resale value when I buy a car. I think this is because you are a product of your environment and my parents keep cars so long they have little resale value left. I mean I had my first car for 9.5 years. My mom’s Olds Silhouette was purchased new in 2001 and traded in for a 2014 RDX. My dad had his Buick Regal, which was an appalling piece of shit, for 8 years. He also put 190k on a Subaru in 8 years, and donated it when the engine died on him. So because the nut never falls too far from the tree, I guess my thinking is the same. I mean it’s not that resale value isn’t important, I mean I had to sell my 128i, but it’s really not the thing I think about when it comes to buy a car. Plus if I enjoyment out of the car, and I can afford it, does resale value really matter.

Just watch out, I have seen a number of x45 series cars blowing smoke in a way that would make my fintail blush.

I initially never thought about resale value as I was from a family where everyone bought good cars, and kept them for 15-20 years. This is the strategy I used for my wife’s car (1-owner Pontiac Vibe with low miles) but not on myself. But that changed a few years ago when I lost a few grand on my second Tercel (bought it for some amount, spent a fortune on futile repairs just to make it road worthy, ended up selling it for nothing to cut my losses). When I bought my Celica, I bought it for less than it was worth, and when I shortly figured out I didn’t want it, I cleaned it up and sold it for a nominal “profit” instead of throwing more money at it, hoping it would suddenly become something I wanted. With my current Tercel, I am have achieved some of my goals, namely: 1) a driver, 2) not a rusted bolt, 3) a good deal. So if or when I lose money on this one, it will be for a very negligible amount.

I’ve always thought the 6-Series had a pretty face, but that Bangle butt was such a confusing styling choice.

Want me to show you some repair bills for these? Polarizing looks aside, these are terrible cars.

This is oppo, we don’t care about reliability.

lol it doesn’t really matter how cheap you can find them for, if you spend money on a 6 series with 150k miles, you deserve whatever happens. I have an M6 myself but only because the engine was replaced 10k miles ago. I know other shit’s going to go wrong with the SMG pump at some point, and I’m just waiting for that lol. Also my throttle actuators have already gone out so I had to just replace those. Easy work but costly af. That being said, I know the regular non-M cars aren’t as expensive to maintain but seriously if you get any BMW with over 100k miles you’re just asking for trouble.

I’ve always loved this design because of how imposing it is. But yeah, BMW does not know how to make a V8.

I couldn’t imagine driving a 6 series with a 6 cylinder... it would be so sluggish. The coupes weigh 4000 pounds and the convertibles weigh about 4400 pounds.
The V8 is nice... but the V10 is even better haha.

It would be like a six-cylinder 5 series.

Totally... but that’s a full size sedan, and it’s okay if that’s slow. But making a car that’s designed to be a grand touring car with an underpowered engine just doesn’t make sense to me.
